Volunteer Opportunities

There are three main ways to volunteer with FEW: As a Board Member, Committee Member or by becoming an Agency Volunteer.

Board Member

The organization is governed by a Board of Directors and is staffed by women dedicated to helping immigrant women succeed in Canadian society. Interested candidates may pursue opportunities to become a member of FEW’s Board of Directors.

To join the Board, a candidate must possess a specific set of professional skill. Board members are elected at the Annual General Meeting and are expected to maintain an active role on the Board for three (3) years. However, Directors may serve a maximum of six (6) years. If there are vacancies, Directors may be appointed until the next Annual General Meeting.

The time requirements for a board member can vary depending on their involvement with FEW. It is generally between 8 to 10 hours per month. Board members are expected to attend monthly board meetings. The full board meets 10 to 12 times per year on the third Monday of each month at 7 p.m. New members should allot additional hours per month for preparation, committee meetings and special events.

Committee meetings are planned in advance and try to accommodate each member’s schedules. Attendance is essential for the committee to do their work and meet established deadlines.

Committee Member

At Focus for Ethnic Women (FEW), we believe that it is important to engage members of the community in what we do, in order to gain a fresh perspective and stay connected with the community we serve.

There are several committees of the Board of Directors at FEW in which members of the community can participate in. These include Human Resources Committee, Marketing/Advertising/Program Committee, Nominating Committee, Finance Committee, Education & Training Fund Committee, and the Business and Special Events and Fundraising Committee.

In order to be a committee member on any of the various active committees at Focus for Ethnic Women, you will be required to complete the following two documents:

1. Volunteer Profile which includes your contact information. Your resume is requested.
