Immigrant Women and Voice Youth

The next step in growth for immigrant girls to gain leadership skills that enable them to flourish in their communities

Starting in September 2011, Focus for Ethnic Women will start a new free empowerment and leadership workshop series for high-school aged immigrant girls.

The workshops will be interactive, engaging and collaborative. The students will share their experiences and ideas to learn from each other. The hours they spend at the Voice Project will count towards their 40 hours of community service. At the completion of the program the students will have gained the knowledge, practice, and confidence to become leaders in their classrooms, school, families and communities.

Some workshop topics include:
* Your cultural background and belonging in Canada
* Finding your passion and goals
* Personal image and self-esteem
* Bullying and peer support
* Public speaking and communication
* Teamwork and leadership styles
* Understanding Canadian culture
* Building strong relationships with friends, teachers and parents
* Media literacy
* Diversity and social justice
* Resume writing and finding employment
* Why it’s important to have women leaders
