32nd Annual Mayor’s Dinner

Focus on Ethnic Women’s Board and staff was pleased to attend the Thirty-Second Annual Mayor’s Dinner in support of The Working Center and St. John’s Kitchen.

The Mayors’ Dinner is an evening that celebrates individuals who have made outstanding contributions to our community.

This year’s theme was “Telling the stories of grassroots, person-centred healthcare”.  We were proud to celebrate and explore exciting examples of compassionate healthcare that is reimagined in creative ways alongside other community groups, the Mayors of Waterloo, Kitchener, and Cambridge, and the distinguished guests of honour.

This year’s guest of honour were:

Dr. George Berrigan and Evelyn Gurney – a doctor and nurse team who have worked 10 years past their retirement, through St. John’s Kitchen Clinic to provide primary care for people who are homeless/at risk of homelessness

Dr. Chris and Michelle Steingart – who have worked together to create Sanguen Health Centre, a grassroots response for those living at risk of Hepatitis C

Dr. Mike Stephenson and Margaret Brockett – who have developed Sanctuary Refugee Health Centre, a patient-centred health clinic to support refugees in Waterloo Region.”

For more information about this event, visit The Working Center’s website.

We look forward to attending next year’s dinner!
